What can I use to make my hair nice, flat, and straight?

I'm a guy. My hair, currently: semi-long, extremely poofy when dry or without any product, somewhat frizzy, somewhat curly. Tends to just poof up, somewhat like an afro. I really want to get that short,"emo" styled hair cut. Is there something I can use to make my hair stay down and stay straight when DRY? I've tried using hair straightening formulas..afterwards they only seem to work when it's wet.

Sounds like your best option is to get a perm, if you'd tried everything else and nothing seems to work. You could try a chi, but straightening your hair too much will damage it.

mmmk, your obviously going to look like an idiot with "emo hair" because from the way you write i can tell you dont have the style to pull it off, but if you want it straight heres what to do.

shower, shampoo and condition (dont skip the conditioner! you will be sorry later) if you want you can use a straightening shampoo and conditioner,herbal essances has a cheap one,

then when your hair is semi damp.(towel dryed) apply straighten cream, i find that creams work better than serums, and a little spritz of leave in conditioner, now blowdry your hair in sections with a round brush (sometimes called a straightening brush) use heat, it wont turn out as well if you use cool air, you going to want to pull straight down with the brush, and not put the blowdryer in from of your face and dance (that just makes it poofier, thats what i do for my thin hair) when it is totaly dry, use some hairspray (just a little) to tame flyaways.
